This was an amazing event!! I had the pleasure of chatting with Mr. Djimon Hounsou. At Regal Cinema 18 in Miami Beach, Saturday March 10th. He was very humble and spoke about his film “In search of voodoo”. I was very surprised to see this film, to know that society has created this devil stigma surrounding voodoo. According to some African cultures voodoo is in fact not evil at all, it is spiritual and necessary for human life. No spooky dolls with pins and needles, or spells just spirituality governed by nature and sacrifice. It is truly sad how society demonizes things they don’t understand in order to rule it out of society. Full of dance and enlightenment on the origins and tribes of voodoo, I believe people will very surprised to know and understand that voodoo is not evil. As Mr. Djimon Hounsou say’s “It’s all in the packaging”.

This directorial debut from two-time Academy Award-nominated Beninese-American actor Djimon Hounsou (Blood Diamond) takes us on a personal journey of spiritual reclamation. Demonized by Christianity, scarred by colonialism and crudely misrepresented in Hollywood movies, we in the West know nothing about voodoo. It is time to tell the story from an African perspective.
